Is SAILI achieving its mandate as encapsulated in its mission statement?

SAILI has learnt that there is nothing wrong with the children, no matter where they come from, as good teaching and a stimulating environment mitigates the social context.

To date over 375 SAILI students have gone on to tertiary education, with 55% studying engineering. SAILI currently supports 120 students (Grade 7 to 12), of whom 52% are female. Financial support from SAILI in the form of bursaries is granted to 90 students to complete their high school education.

The ultimate success for SAILI is seeing students from disadvantgaed backgrounds performing well at school and going on to achieve the required results that will enable them to pursue tertiary studies. To arrive at this "end product" involves a process of identifying, nurturing and supporting students to ensure they reach their full academic potential.

SAILI's policy of immersing disadvantaged students in good schools and providing them with the necessary support structures, has been effective in producing matriculants who are able to continue with their studies at a higher level and eventually obtain the necessary qualifications that will enable them to enter into mathematic/science-based careers, such as engineering.
