- Showed aptitude for Maths and Science in Grade 7 (average 93% Maths).
- Received the SAILI scholarship and was placed in Sans Souci.
- Latest Grade 11 report – 95% Maths and 87% Physical Science.
- Currently first in both her class and her grade, overall.
- Would like to be a Chartered Accountant, as she loves working with numbers.

Grade 12
- Currently Grade 12 (boarder), Cape Academy.
- First in her family to reach Matric — quote from Portia: 'Youth in my community drop out of school or if not, when they reach Grade 12, they fail. My brother gave up in Grade 11 and my sister in Grade 10'.
- Showed particular talent in Maths at Primary School.
- Performed well in High School. In Grade 9 the Headmaster commented that: 'Portia can feel well pleased…she has earned a fair clutch of A grades as just reward for her hard work'.
- Transferred to Cape Academy in Grade 10. In her first Grade 12 report she received 75% in Maths, 74% in Life Sciences and 71% in Physical Science.
- She wants to study Civil Engineering next year. When she was in Grade 8, her SAILI tutor worked as a surveyor in the Civil Engineering field and encouraged her to 'go for what she dreamed of and not look back'. Having this infl uence around her has helped her develop the drive to succeed.
